Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The No. 7 Clark women's basketball team (15-11) traveled to No. 2 Smith (23-3) in a NEWMAC Quarterfinal clash against the Pioneers and fell 95-40 on Wednesday night from Ainsworth Gymnasium.

This marked the Cougars first NEWMAC Tournament appearance since the 2018-19 season.

How it Happened

• The Pioneers jumped out to an early 14-6 lead despite a made three-pointer from first-year Kailey Rios, a layup from first-year Olivia Shipley, and a free throw from senior Alaina Schatzabel.
• First-year Catherine Antwi provided a spark for the scarlet and white, netting Clark's next six points, but Smith outscored the Cougars 9-2 over the final 2:23 of the first as the Pioneers held a 29-12 lead after one quarter of play.
• Schatzabel scored the first point of the second quarter for the scarlet and white with a made free throw before Smith rattled off 10 straight points and two more Schatzabel free throws with 4:06 to play in the second made it a 39-15 game.
• Senior Jacqueline Faulise and Rios combined to score Clark's final seven points of the half, with Faulise pouring in five points as the Pioneers held a 52-22 lead heading into the break.
• The Cougars opened the third quarter on a 7-2 run as Faulise made a layup and hit a three-pointer as well as a made layup from graduate student Sarah Zambrano made it a 54-29 game with 6:32 remaining in the third.
• After Smith scored 11 unanswered points, Schatzabel made a layup and a Faulise layup before the end of the third as the Cougars trailed 72-33.
• In the fourth quarter, Zambrano Faulise, and Schatzabel all scored as the Pioneers came away with the victory.

• Clark grabbed 23 rebounds and forced eight turnovers.
