Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (14-7, 4-3 NEWMAC) traveled to No. 21 Smith (17-3, 6-1 NEWMAC) in a NEWMAC clash and fell 104-64 on Saturday afternoon from Ainsworth Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- Clark and Smith played to an early 3-3 game as senior Jacqueline Faulise and first-year Emma Drefs each scored before the Pioneers netted eight unanswered.
- Senior Alaina Schatzabel and first-year Catherine Anwti combined for Clark's next five points to make it a 14-8 game in favor of the home team before Smith scored eight unanswered as the Pioneers took a 24-8 lead into the second quarter.
- After Smith scored the first six points of the second, Faulise hit a pair of free throws and a three-pointer to make it a 34-15 contest with 5:38 to go in the period.
- First-year Kailey Rios then added four points and a made triple from Drefs before the break made it a 42-25 game entering the locker room.
- Graduate student Sarah Zambrano and junior Megan Swedberg scored Clark's first four points of the third quarter as the Pioneers jumped out to a 71-31 lead with 2:59 remaining in the third.
- Drefs and Zambrano converted an and-one before the end of the period as Smith held an 83-36 lead.
- In the fourth, Faulise and junior Kumi Tamura led the way with seven points each and the Cougars also got baskets from Schatzabel, Antwi, Swedberg, Zambrano, and Leighton as the Pioneers recorded a 104-64 victory.
