WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (4-10, 0-2 NEWMAC) traveled to Wellesley (9-5, 2-0 NEWMAC) for their NEWMAC opener on Saturday afternoon from the Wellesley Softball Field and were edged in both games by the Blue.
Game One: Wellesley 3, Clark 2 (F/8)
- Senior Rebecca Mauro registered a single in the first inning, but was caught stealing and from the first to third inning, first-year Megan Dube allowed no runs on the mound.
- Sophomore Felicia Salvati gave Clark a 1-0 edge in the top of the fourth with a single up the middle they scored Mauro.
- Dube tossed another scoreless inning in the fourth before the Blue tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth with a sacrifice fly.
- Neither team recorded a hit in the sixth inning and in the bottom of the seventh, Dube got out of a jam that saw a runner reach second to send the game to extra innings.
- First-year Charlise Quigley gave Clark a lead in the top of the eighth with an RBI that plated graduate student Reilly Bronson to give the Cougars a 2-1 edge.
- The Blue walked it off in the bottom of the eight with a pair of runs, including a game-winning RBI double from Rodriguez.
Game Two: Wellesley 6, Clark 1
- Sophomore Keira Langus allowed no runs in the top of the first before the Cougars took an early 1-0 lead as sophomore Magdalena Barthel drove in a run with an RBI single that scored Salvati.
- Wellesley scored one run in the second and two in the third to take a 3-1 edge before adding three more in the bottom of the fourth.
- Sophomore Brooke Buzzeo pitched a scoreless fifth inning and in the top of the sixth, Mauro was able to reach base with a walk, but was left on base.
- Sophomore Caitriona Andre, Barthel, and first-year Jennifer Albano loaded up the bases in the top of the seventh, but the Blue got out of the jam to win 6-1.
What's Next
Clark will return to the field on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Fitchburg State for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
