FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (5-11) traveled to Fitchburg State (5-13) for an early week doubleheader and split the series on Tuesday afternoon from Coolidge Park.
Game One: Clark 4, Fitchburg St. 3 (F/9)
- First-year Megan Dube got the ball for the Cougars in game one and after a scoreless first inning, sophomore Madison Dillon drew a walk in the second, but was left on base.
- After another scoreless inning from Dube, sophomore Emelie Spence singled to center field and stole second before the Falcons got out of the jam.
- Dube allowed runs in both the third and fourth inning before first-year Charlise Quigley singled up the middle in the top of the fifth.
- Neither team scored in the fifth, sixth, or seventh as the game went into extras tied at 0-0 as both starters were tossing gems.
- The Cougars plated three runs in the top of the eighth as graduate student Reilly Bronson stole home, senior Samantha Crowley and senior Rebecca Mauro each recorded RBI's to go up 3-0.
- After the Falcons plated three in the bottom of the eighth, Bronson belted an RBI double to left field and Dube locked down Fitchburg State in the bottom of the ninth to win 4-3.
Game Two: Fitchburg St. 6, Clark 2
- Sophomore Keira Langus took the mound for the Cougars in game two and tossed a scoreless first inning before the pitcher helped her own cause with a single to center field in the top of the second, but was left on base.
- After a scoreless second inning, Spence reached base and stole second, but was unable to score and in the bottom of the fourth, Langus got out of a bases loaded jam with one out as the game remained tied at 0-0.
- Sophomore Felicia Salvati and Crowley each reached base in the top of the fifth before the Falcons got out of the inning.
- The Cougars took a 1-0 edge in the top of the sixth when Mauro came around to score on a ball hit by Langus.
- After the Falcons scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth, Langus singled to left to score Spence before the team fell 6-2.
What's Next
Clark will be back in action on Friday afternoon when they travel to Coast Guard for a NEWMAC doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
