Men's Lacrosse Edged by Saint Leo on Tuesday

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (2-3) opened their spring break trip with a road contest at Saint Leo (4-1) and were edged 12-5 on Tuesday night.

How it Happened
  • Graduate student Dylan Harloff opened the game with a save off the opening faceoff and senior Matthew Minkwitz gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead with a goal early in the first quarter.
  • After Saint Leo tied the game at 1-1, Harloff recorded a pair of saves before Minkwitz added his second goal of the game with 1:31 to go in the quarter as Clark led 2-1.
  • Sophomore Lucas Cuda nearly extended the lead to two goals, but had his shot saved and despite four Harloff saves in the second quarter, the Cougars trailed 4-2 at the half.
  • Saint Leo scored the first two goals of the third before junior Matt Wells netted a man-up goal off a feed from senior Attilio LaVecchia as Clark pulled within three at 6-3 with 6:13 to play in the third.
  • After a pair of Saint Leo goals, senior Patrick Liddy scored a goal with 0:53 left in the third quarter as the Cougars trailed 8-4 entering the fourth.
  • Liddy netted his second goal of the game to open the fourth to make it an 8-5 game, but Saint Leo scored the final four goals of the game as they came away with a 12-5 win.

  • Clark attempted 25 shots, scooped up 21 ground balls, converted 21 clears, and forced 18 turnovers.
  • Harloff registered a team-leading 15 saves.
  • Minkwitz and Liddy each recorded two goals.
