Softball Records Win Over Anna Maria and Falls to Rockford

NAPLES, Fla. – The Clark University softball team (2-4) continued their Florida trip and came away with a 4-3 win over Anna Maria and a loss to Rockford.

Game One: Clark 4, Anna Maria 3
  • First-year Megan Dube took the mound for the Cougars in game one and pitched a scoreless first and in the bottom of the inning,
  • Senior Rebecca Mauro drove in senior Samantha Crowley, sophomore Magdalena Barthel brought fellow sophomore home, and an RBI single from sophomore Madison Dillon gave the Cougars a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
  • After a scoreless second from Dube, the Amcats scored a run in the top of the third and in the bottom of the third, Dillon doubled and drove home Mauro as the scarlet and white led 4-1.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, sophomore Alyssa Briggs singled and stole second before Crowley walked and both advanced on base, but were left on base.
  • The Amcats cut the deficit to two in the top of the fifth and in the bottom of the fifth, Dillon and Salvati each singled.
  • Dube got out of a jam in the top of the sixth and in the top of the seventh the Amcats plated a run, but Dube got the final two batters of the game to pop out and ground out as Clark came away with a 4-3 win.
Game Two: Rockford 6, Clark 2
  • Mauro singled for Clark in the top of the first, but was left on base and sophomore Keira Langus allowed no runs in the bottom of the first.
  • After the Regents scored two runs in the bottom of the second, Crowley reached base and stole second before Rockford got out of the jam.
  • In the top of the fourth, sophomore Ella Traynor and Dillon each singled before Rockford recorded the final out of the inning.
  • Clark plated a run in the top of the fifth when sophomore Emelie Spencer singled up the middle to drive in first-year Charlise Quigley and make it a 3-1 contest.
  • Rockford scored another run in the bottom of the fifth and after another Regent run in the bottom of the sixth, Mauro drove in Crowley with a single through the left side as Clark fell 6-2.
What's Next
The Cougars will return to the field on Thursday morning when they take on Penn State Altoona (9:00 a.m.) and North Central (11:00 a.m.)
