Baseball Explodes for 17 Hits in 13-4 Victory Over Saint Vincent

DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Clark University baseball team (6-0) extended their winning streak to six games with a 13-4 victory over Saint Vincent (0-3) on Wednesday morning from Northeast Regional Park.

How it Happened
  • Clark jumped out to an early 4-0 lead as sophomore Michael Soares, sophomore Brayden Hollinrake, senior Anthony LoCasto, and junior Tyler Jones each recorded RBI's that plated graduate student Ryan Caulfield, sophomore Dom Mariani, Hollinrake, and sophomore Nicolo Mainardi.
  • Senior Heath Cockburn pitched a scoreless first inning and after an inside-the-park home run from Mariani extended the Cougar lead to 5-0.
  • Cockburn tossed a scoreless second inning and after the Bearcats plated a run in the bottom of the third, Mariani singled to center field to drive in Jones as Clark took a 6-1 lead.
  • Clark exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth as Hollinrake roped a two-RBI triple to right field, LoCasto singled Hollinrake home, Caulfield belted a two-RBI double down the right field line, and Mariani hit a sacrifice fly that scored senior Billy Sullivan to go up 12-1.
  • First-year Brendan Bruun made his collegiate debut and retired the side in order and got out of a jam in the sixth inning before Mariani drove in Jones in the top of the seventh to take a 13-1 edge.
  • After Saint Vincent scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, junior Gavin Belt allowed no runs in the eighth or ninth inning as Clark came away with a 13-4 victory.

  • Mariani went 3-3 with four RBI's and scored two runs.
  • Jones added three hits, three runs, and an RBI.
  • Hollinrake recorded two hits, three RBI's, and scored two runs.
  • Caulfield, Soares, LoCasto, and Sullivan each registered two hits.
  • Cockburn pitched 4.0 innings, struck out three batters, and only allowed one run.
  • Bruun and Belt each tossed 2.0 shutout innings.

Clark will be back on the field on Friday morning when they take on Gordon beginning at 9:00 a.m.
