DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Clark University baseball team (9-0) closed out their spring break trip with a doubleheader against UMass Dartmouth (1-4) and came away with a convincing 9-2 win in game one and a thrilling 6-5 walk-off victory on Saturday night from Northeast Regional Park.
Game One: Clark 9, UMass Dartmouth 2
- Graduate student Ryan Caulfield opened the first inning with a single through the left side and junior Carter Doran walked, but the Corsairs were able to get out of the jam.
- Senior Maxwell Gitlin started on the mound for Clark and retired the order in the bottom of the first and after a scoreless second and third inning, the Cougars offense exploded for four runs as senior Anthony LoCasto, junior Tyler Jones, Caulfield, and sophomore Dom Mariani each recorded RBI's to put the scarlet and white up 4-0 in the top of the fourth.
- Gitlin retired the side in order in the bottom of the fourth before Jones and senior Billy Sullivan each registered RBI's with ground ball singles through the gap to put Clark up 6-0.
- After a scoreless fifth inning from Gitlin, the Cougars plated two more runs as sophomore Brayden Hollinrake drove in a run and junior Sean Borden stole home to give the scarlet and white a commanding 8-0 edge.
- The Corsairs plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Clark added another run as Sullivan scored off a passed ball to put the Cougars up 9-2 and in the bottom of the seventh, junior Gavin Belt closed the door with three outs as Clark registered a 9-2 victory.
Game Two: Clark 6, UMass Dartmouth 5
- Sophomore Tommy Flaherty got the ball for Clark in game two and set UMass Dartmouth down in order and in the bottom of the first, Doran singled to first and was driven in by a two-run homer to left field by sophomore Michael Soares as the Cougars took a 2-0 lead.
- In the top of the second, Flaherty picked off a pair of runners to help get out of the inning and tossed a scoreless third inning as Clark still held a 2-0 advantage.
- UMass Dartmouth tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth and in the bottom of the fourth, Soares and Hollinrake both singled, but the Corsairs got out of the jam.
- In the top of the fifth, Doran saved a run with a throw from center to the dish that beat Cromack as the game remained tied at 2-2.
- Graduate student Benjamin Spencer tossed a scoreless sixth inning in relief and forced three groundouts in the top of the seventh.
- Jones opened the bottom of the seventh with a base hit to short and reached second off a sacrifice bunt from Sullivan and an intentional walk to Caulfield put runners on first and second with one out, but the Corsairs forced a double play as the game entered extras tied at 2-2.
- UMass Dartmouth loaded the bases in the top of the eighth and scored three runs in the inning and in the bottom of the frame, junior Ryan Bonja belted a double to left field that scored Soares and senior Samuel Farrell to pull Clark within one at 5-4 with two outs.
- Jones tied the game at 5-5 with a single through the left side that scored Borden and Sullivan put a ball in play that scored Jones as the scarlet and white came away with a 6-5 walk-off victory.

Clark will return to the diamond on Tuesday afternoon for their pride game against WNE beginning at 3:00 p.m. from Granger Field.
