NEWPORT, R.I. – The Clark University softball team (5-17, 0-8 NEWMAC) traveled to Salve Regina (10-14, 5-5 NEWMAC) for a Saturday softball doubleheader and dropped both games to the Seahawks from Toppa Field.
Game One: Salve Regina 7, Clark 2
- First-year Charlise Quigley walked and reached second off a wild pitch in the top of the first before Salve got out of the jam.
- First-year Megan Dube took the mound for the Cougars in game one and allowed no runs in the first inning.
- In the top of the second, sophomore Felicia Salvati and Dube each drew walks, but were unable to score and in the bottom of the second, Salve plated a run to go up 1-0.
- Clark tied the game in the top of the third when senior Rebecca Mauro drove in a run with a ground ball that scored fellow senior Samantha Crowley as the game was tied at 1-1.
- The Seahawks scored three runs in the bottom of the third and two in the bottom of the fourth.
- The Cougars plated a run in the top of the fifth when Salvati singled to left field that plated Mauro as Clark trailed 6-2 and would ultimately fall 7-2.
Game Two: Salve Regina 13, Clark 0 (F/5)
- The Seahawks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first and in the top of the second, first-year Magdalena Barthel singled to center field.
- Salve added five more runs in the bottom of the second and in the top of the third, first-year Alexis Taudel drew a walk.
- Mauro belted a double to left field in the top of the fourth and reach third, but was left on base as the Seahawks got out of the jam.
- Junior Ashleigh Hughes was Clark's final runner of the game as she drew a walk in the fifth inning, but was unable to score.
What's Next
Clark will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they welcome Nichols to O'Brien Field for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
