Softball Loses Twin Bill Against Nichols

WORCESTER. Mass. – The Clark University softball team (5-19) welcomed Nichols (15-11) to O'Brien for a NEWMAC doubleheader and fell to the Bison in both games on Tuesday afternoon.

Game One: Nichols 4, Clark 0
  • Nichols jumped out to an early 1-0 lead before first-year Megan Dube tossed a scoreless second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth inning.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Dube recorded the Cougars first hit of the game in the sixth inning and after sophomore Ella Traynor reached second on a sacrifice bunt from fellow sophomore Emelie Spence before the Bison got out of the inning.
  • Nichols added three runs in the seventh and in the bottom of the seventh, senior Rebecca Mauro reached base, but was unable to score as Clark fell 4-0.
Game Two: Nichols 9, Clark 2
  • The Bison scored two runs in the first inning before Clark answered with a run in the bottom of the first off an RBI single from sophomore Felicia Salvati that plated Spence as the Cougars trailed 2-1.
  • Nichols scored another run in the top of the second and after a scoreless third inning pitched by sophomore Brooke Buzzeo, the Cougars added a run off a sacrifice fly from Mauro that scored senior Samantha Crowley to pull back within one at 3-2.
  • Buzzeo pitched another scoreless inning in the fourth and in the bottom of the inning, Salvati singled, but was caught stealing.
  • First-year Charlise Quigley and Crowley each reached base in the bottom of the fifth, but were unable to score.
  • Sophomore Keira Langus pitched a scoreless sixth inning before the Bison scored five in the seventh and came away with a 9-2 win.
What's Next
Clark will return to action on Friday afternoon when they welcome Emerson to O'Brien for a home NEWMAC doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
