WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (4-9, 1-4 NEWMAC) hosted Wheaton (8-5, 3-2 NEWMAC) in their Renny Classic game on Saturday afternoon and came away with a thrilling 8-7 victory over the Lyons from Granger Field.
How it Happened
- After Wheaton took an early 1-0 lead, senior Attilio LaVecchia found fellow senior Matthew Minkwitz for a goal that tied the game at 1-1.
- Graduate student Dylan Harloff recorded two saves before Minkwitz gave the Cougars a 2-1 edge with 5:10 to go in the first.
- Junior Mason Kaufmann then extended Clark's lead to two at 3-1 off a feed from junior Harry Leduc and Harloff stopped two more shots before the end of the first.
- Harloff opened the second quarter with a save and the team's defense held strong during the frame as Clark allowed no goals in the period and nearly scored multiple goals, but Minkwitz and sophomore Thomas Michaud each put two shots on target that were saved as the Cougars led 3-1 at the break.
- After Wheaton scored the first two goals of the third, senior Colin Howard gave Clark the lead back at 4-3 with 6:08 to play in the third.
- The Lyons scored the final goal of the third to tie the game at 4-4, but the Cougars ripped off four goals within the first three minutes of the fourth as senior Patrick Liddy scored twice, Kaufmann, and Minkwitz both back of the net as Clark led 8-4 with 12:00 minutes to play.
- After Wheaton scored three straight to get within one at 8-7 with 2:15 to play, the Cougars forced two turnovers down the stretch, including one from junior Matt Wells as Clark registered a thrilling 8-7 win.

- Clark attempted 42 shots, scooped up 31 ground balls, won 13 face offs, and converted 20 clears.
- Minkwitz recorded a hat trick and scooped up four ground balls.
- Liddy and Kaufmann each added two goals.
- Howard recorded a goal and an assist and LaVecchia tallied two assists.
- Sophomore Patrick O'Rourke scooped up 12 ground balls and won 13 face offs.
