Gitlin Tosses Gem in Baseball's 3-0 Win Over Emerson

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team (17-5, 2-2 NEWMAC) completed their season series against Emerson (3-14, 0-4 NEWMAC) and came away with a 3-0 victory over the Lions on Tuesday afternoon from the New England Baseball Complex.

How it Happened
  • Graduate student Ryan Caulfield scored the Cougars first run of the game off a ground ball from sophomore Michael Soares to give Clark an early 1-0 edge.
  • After senior Maxwell Gitlin got out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the first, Clark extended the lead to 2-0 when junior Tyler Jones hit a sacrifice fly to left field that plated first-year Michael Salzillo.
  • Gitlin retired the side in order in the bottom of the second and after sophomore Dom Mariani and junior Carter Doran each reached base in the top of the third, the Lions got out of the jam.
  • The Cougars plated their third run of the game in the top of the fourth when Doran was hit by a pitch that plated Jones as Clark went up 3-0.
  • Sophomore Brayden Hollinrake and junior Ryan Bonja each got on base in the top of the fifth before being stranded and in both the sixth and seventh innings, Gitlin set down the side order.
  • Gitlin shut the door on the Lions in the eighth and ninth as he allowed no hits to give the scarlet and white a 3-0 victory.
