Baseball Bested by Nichols

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team (20-14) played their second home game of the week against Nichols (22-9) on Thursday afternoon and dropped the game 16-4 from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • First-year Brandon Berean took the mound in the top of the first and after allowing a one-out hit, Berean forced a double play ball to end the inning.
  • Graduate student Ryan Caulfield walked in the bottom of the first before the Bison got out of the inning.
  • The Bison plated seven runs in the top of the second inning sparked by a pair of homer runs and added another run in the top of the third to take an 8-0 lead.
  • Senior Billy Sullivan recorded Clark's first hit of the game in the bottom of the third with a single through the right side, but was left on base.
  • The Bison added three runs in the top of the top of the fourth and added another run in the top of the fifth before sophomore Jake Faulkenham and first-year Chas Caron each drew walks, but were left on base.
  • Junior Sean Borden pitched a scoreless top of the sixth inning for the Cougars before first-year Michael Salzillo belted a home run to left field in the bottom of the sixth as Clark trailed 12-1.
  • Nichols plated four runs in the top of the seventh and in the bottom of the seventh, Faulkenham drew a walk and junior Tyler Jones singled before Sullivan recorded an RBI single to right field.
  • Graduate student Ryan Caulfield doubled to left field to drive in Jones and Sullivan as Clark fell 16-4.

  • Sullivan recorded a pair of hits, stole a base, and drove in a run.

What's Next
The Cougars will play their final two non-conference road games of the season when they travel to Tufts for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
