Softball Edged by Babson in Road NEWMAC Series

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (6-28, 1-17 NEWMAC) played their final road doubleheader at Babson (22-16, 11-7 NEWMAC) and were edged by the Beavers in both games from Alumni Field.

Game One: Babson 1, Clark 0
  • First-year Megan Dube took the mound for Clark in game one and after allowing a base hit and runner on second, got out of the inning.
  • After a scoreless second inning, Dube drew a walk and pinch-runner Jennifer Albano reached second before the Beavers got the third out.
  • Sophomore Magdalena Barthel reached base in the top of the fourth and sophomore Erin Slavin and Dube reached base in the top of the fifth before Babson got out of the inning.
  • The Beavers retired the side in the sixth as the pitcher's duel continued before Babson scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to win 1-0.
Game Two: Babson 11, Clark 3 (F/5)
  • Senior Rebecca Mauro singled in the top of the first, but was left on base before Babson scored seven runs between the first and second inning.
  • Senior Samantha Crowley doubled in the top of the third and in the top of the fourth, first-year Charlise Quigley scored on a wild pitch as Clark trailed 8-1.
  • In the top of the fifth, Mauro recorded an RBI double to right field that scored Crowley and Quigley tallied an RBI single that scored Mauro to cut the deficit to six at 9-3.
  • The Beavers scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to win 11-3.
What's Next
Clark will close out the 2024 season with a home doubleheader tomorrow against MIT beginning at 12:00 p.m.
