WORCESTER, Mass. – Clark University Director of Athletics and Recreation Trish Cronin announced the appointment of Matthew Heckler as the new head volleyball coach on Monday afternoon.
"We are thrilled to welcome Matthew to Clark University," said Cronin. "His extensive coaching experience and dedication to student-athlete development align perfectly with our university's values. We are confident that under Matthew's leadership, our volleyball program will flourish, both competitively and academically."
Heckler joins Clark University with a wealth of coaching experience, most recently serving as the Director of Regional Volleyball at Mill City Volleyball Club in Lowell. During his tenure, Heckler coached national-level club volleyball teams, developed comprehensive practice plans, and fostered a culture of excellence and sportsmanship among players and staff alike. His commitment to player welfare and skill enhancement has been instrumental in the club's success on both regional and national stages.
In addition to his role at Mill City Volleyball Club, Heckler has contributed significantly to high school and collegiate volleyball. At Windham High School, he implemented tailored practice regimes aimed at holistic player development, emphasizing both athletic growth and academic success. Heckler most recently served as assistant women's volleyball coach at Rivier University for the past two seasons. He has also focused on technique refinement and injury prevention strategies for collegiate athletes.
"I am very excited to start my time at Clark University as the Head Women's Volleyball Coach," said Heckler. "I aim to bring my passion and experience to a program that has had success in the NEWMAC in the past. This is an absolutely incredible opportunity at an excellent University and I am honored that I have been selected for this position. I'm hoping that the culture of hard work and success that was instilled in me, during my time playing for Coach Craig Kolek at Rivier University, will translate to the Clark Volleyball program and help bring them success."
Heckler holds a Bachelor of Business Management from Rivier University and was a four-year player for the men's volleyball program.
