WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (7-4, 1-0 NEWMAC) opened conference play against crosstown rival WPI (5-6, 0-1 NEWMAC) and recorded a convincing 3-0 victory on Tuesday night from Harrington Auditorium.
Clark took the first set 25-11, won the second set 25-15, and registered a 25-20 victory in the final set.
How it Happened
- The Cougars held an early 5-4 lead in the first set as senior Camille Sterling and graduate student Sofia Scherrer del Llano each registered kills before the scarlet and white rattled off four straight points with a junior Yumeng Liu service ace, a pair of graduate student Victoria Pastor kills, and a kill from first-year Isabella Alcott gave Clark a 9-4 advantage.
- Blocks and kills from Pastor, graduate student Camille Flurry, and sophomore Winifred Gakidis helped extend the Cougar edge to 17-5.
- Flurry, Alcott, Scherrer del Llano, and first-year Abigail Venis all recorded kills off assists from senior Yvanna Torres as Clark took the first set 25-11.
- The scarlet and white jumped out to an early 8-2 lead in the second set as Sterling, Scherrer del Llano and Alcott all recorded two kills.
- After the Engineers made it a 10-7 second set, first-year Hannah Harrington registered a service ace and an attack error from WPI extended the edge back to five at 12-7.
- Gakidis and Pastor combined for a pair of blocks on back-to-back plays before kills from Gakidis, Flurry and Alcott as well as a service ace from sophomore Julia Dopazo helped Clark record a 25-15 victory in the second set.
- Clark jumped out to a 6-4 lead in the third set sparked by a pair of kills from Gakidis as well as kills from Pastor and Sterling off passes from Torres before a kill later in the set from Flurry gave the Cougars a 9-8 edge.
- With the set tied at 10-10, Pastor registered three kills and a block to held extend the lead to 15-11 in the middle of the set.
- Scherrer del Llano, Liu, Sterling, and three kills from junior Emily Newman helped fight off a WPI rally as the Cougars came away with a 25-20 victory in the third set.

- Clark recorded 44 kills, six aces, seven blocks, 39 assists, and 59 digs.
- Pastor led the team with 13 kills and added 15 digs.
- Sterling, Scherrer del Llano, and Alcott each recorded six kills.
