WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior
Bruce Saintilus registered the game-winning layup with 0:05 remaining as the Clark University men's basketball team (9-7, 5-2 NEWMAC) remained unblemished at home in NEWMAC play with a 73-71 victory over MIT (8-8, 2-5 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon from the Kneller Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- The scarlet and white jumped out to an early 8-4 lead led by four points from senior Kekoa McArdle, a made jumper from senior Isaiah Taylor, and a made dunk from first-year Boluwasefe John.
- MIT then went on a 7-2 run that was ended by a John free throw and a triple from graduate student Jordan Richard with 11:13 to play in the half gave the Cougars a 14-13 edge.
- Saintilus and sophomore Quentin Pridgen combined for the contests next three points before the Engineers fought back to take a lead, but McArdle made his fourth layup of the half as Clark led 21-20 with 8:19 remaining.
- John, Taylor, and Saintilus scored the Cougars next seven points to help tie the contest at 26-26, before Clark went on a 9-1 run sparked by a triple from junior Reid Neumann and buckets from Saintilus, Pridgen, and McArdle to go up 35-27.
- MIT ended the half with nine unanswered points with contributions from Parker Spann, Merlin Gogolin, and Tim Minicozzi as Clark trailed 36-35 at the break.
- The Engineers opened the second half with five straight points before Saintilus scored eight of Clark's next 10 points with a pair of made triples and free throws as the Cougars tied the contest at 45-45 with 14:13 remaining in the game.
- John, Saintilus, and Pridgen all scored over the next three minutes as the teams traded buckets before an and-one layup from Taylor helped give the scarlet and white a 59-57 advantage with 9:06 to play.
- After MIT tied the game at 63-63, John and Saintilus each made a pair of free throws before a Saintilus jumper with 3;03 to go gave the Cougars a 69-68 edge.
- Spencer Lin then hit a triple for the Engineers to give them the lead with 1:56 to play at 71-69, but the Cougars defense held MIT scoreless from then on.
- John scored off an offensive rebound with 0:59 to go and after a Cougar timeout, Saintilus drove to the hoop and finished through contact with 0:05 remaining to help Clark prevail 73-71.

- Clark made 28 shots, shot 52.8 percent from the floor, grabbed 26 rebounds, dished out 14 assists, and recorded 16 steals.
- Saintlus led the way with 23 points on 7-11 shooting, while also adding five rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
- McArdle recorded 14 points on 7-9 from the floor and pulled down six rebounds.
- Taylor and John also reached double-figures with 11 points apiece.
