NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Clark University women's soccer (5-3-4, 1-2-2 NEWMAC) traveled to Smith (2-8-1, 1-4-0 NEWMAC) for their second road NEWMAC game of the week and sophomore
Georgia Louis sealed the victory with a goal with 0:11 to play as the Cougars prevailed 5-4 in a high-scoring affair on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
- The Cougars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Louis dribbled into the box and passed the ball into the middle of multiple bodies on both teams and as Smith attempted to clear the ball, fellow sophomore Selene Hammad blocked the pass and the ball went into the back of the net.
- In the 10th minute, Una Keller received a ball off a throw in and buried it into the bottom left corner of the net to tie the contest at 1-1.
- First-year Calabria Augustino dribbled up the right side the pitch and serviced a ball into the middle of the box that found the head of Hammad, with Hammad finding the back of the net for the second time to take a 2-1 lead in the 17th minute.
- Junior Ava Lepro tallied her first save of the match in the 28th minute before first-year Lillie DeMetrick fired a shot on goal that was stopped.
- Kaleigh Quinn tied the game before the end of the first half by lobbing a ball over the head of Lepro as the teams entered the break tied 2-2.
- Quinn gave the Bears a 3-2 edge in the 58th minute as she lofted a ball into the top left corner of the goal off a feed from Keller.
- Senior Emma Shaughnessy tied the match at 3-3 in the 64th minute as Hammad sent a ball in on goal that punched away, but Shaughnessy was there to fire the ball into the back of the net.
- Shaughnessy brought the ball up the middle of the pitch, passed it out to sophomore Solimar Rivera, who sent the ball across the left side of the box to Louis, with Louis burying the shot as Clark led 4-3 in the 72nd minute.
- In the 83rd minute, Quinn received a ball in the middle of the box, turned, and found the back right of the net to tie the game back up at 4-4.
- Louis sealed the victory with 0:11 remaining as Lepro passed the ball up to Hammad and Hammad found Louis, who fired a shot on goal that was saved before following that shot up into the bottom right corner as the Cougars earned a 5-4 NEWMAC victory.
