Women's Soccer Downed by No. 8 MIT in 5-0 Loss

WORCESTER, Mass. – Clark University women's soccer (5-4-4, 1-3-2 NEWMAC) hosted No. 8 MIT (13-2-0, 6-0-0 NEWMAC) under the lights at Granger Field. The Engineers struck first in the opening half and pulled away in the second, scoring four more to secure a 5-0 victory.

How it Happened

  • MIT applied pressure early, putting five shots on goal in the opening 25 minutes. Junior Gabrielle Huryn turned aside every attempt, including a diving stop on a shot bound for the bottom corner.

  • The Engineers finally broke through in the 29th minute when Natalie Barnouw created space outside the 18 and curled a perfectly placed shot into the net for a 1-0 lead.

  • The scoring picked back up in the second half, as Madeline Seebeck doubled the advantage in the 56th minute with a rocket off the crossbar and in, assisted by Barnouw.

  • Just three minutes later, Barnouw's corner kick ricocheted off Arianna Doss to a waiting Seebeck, who buried her second goal of the night to make it 3-0.

  • MIT extended the lead in the 65th minute when Sasha Ceol launched a ball forward to Andrea Cummings, who tapped it to Amara Ukomadu for a clean breakaway finish.

  • Sophomore Solimar Rivera produced the first shot on goal for the Cougars soon after, but her attempt was denied by the keeper before it could reach the top corner.

  • Angela Zhang capped the scoring late, pouncing on a loose ball in the box and slotting it into the bottom corner for the 5-0 final.

Inside the Box Score

  • Clark generated four shots including one shot on goal.

  • The Cougars drew five fouls in the effort.

  • Huryn made 12 saves in the effort, doubling her season total and marking the most by a Cougar goalkeeper since Julianna Christy's 14-save performance against Smith in 2017.

  • Rivera registered the lone shot on goal for Clark and now ranks second on the team with 26 shots on target this season.
