WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (1-16, 0-8 NEWMAC) hosted Wheaton (10-13, 2-6 NEWMAC) on Tuesday night and fell in straight sets 3-0 to the Lyons from the Kneller Gymnasium.
The Cougars fell 25-17 in the first set, dropped the second set 25-23, and were bested 25-15 in the final set.
How it Happened
- Sophomore Isabella Alcott, junior Harper Chinn, and sophomore Abigail Venis each tallied kills to start the match as the Cougars trailed 12-7.
- Senior Yumeng Liu registered a service ace and kills from graduate student Isabella Smith, junior Katelyn Williams, and Alcott as Clark pulled to within four at 19-15, but Wheaton ended the set with six of the last eight points to prevail 25-17.
- The Cougars opened the second set on an 11-10 run as Alcott and Chinn each tallied two kills and a block before a dual block from junior Winifred Gakidis and Alcott made it a 16-15 score.
- Alcott registered a kill and service ace as the teams were tied 22-22 before the Lyons scored three of the final four points to take the set 25-23.
- Gakidis/Chinn combined for a block, Williams tallied a kill off a feed from junior Julia Dopazo, and a Chinn service ace gave the Cougars a 4-2 edge early in the third.
- Alcott, Venis, and Smith each recorded kills in the middle of the set before another Chinn kill off a pass from sophomore Hannah Harrington as Clark extended their lead to 11-10.
- Wheaton tallied 10 straight points and a kill from Alcott before the end of the match made it a 25-15 victory in the final set.
