SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Clark University women's soccer (6-5-4, 2-4-2 NEWMAC) registered their sixth shutout of the season and second road NEWMAC victory by a 2-0 margin against Mount Holyoke (1-9-3, 0-8-0 NEWMAC) on Wednesday night from the MHC Soccer Field.
How it Happened
- The Cougars offense applied early pressure on the Lyons backline as sophomore Georgia Louis hit the post and fellow sophomore Solimar Rivera fired a shot that was saved by Clarissa Govea.
- Off a corner, Louis tracked down the ball, fired one across the box that hit Govea's hands and found the foot of Hammad, who kicked the ball to fellow sophomore Rivera, with Rivera finding the back of the net as Clark took a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute.
- Over the next 10 minutes, Louis, first-year Calabria Augustino, and Hammad all created chances that Govea stopped.
- Rivera and Louis each saw shots saved and Clark's defense continued not to allow the Lyons to get in behind as they held Mount Holyoke without a shot on goal over the first 30 minutes of action.
- In the 30th minute, Louis extended Clark's lead to 2-0 as Hammad sent a ball into the box after a corner and Louis saw her first shot saved by Govea, but followed it up into the back right corner of the net.
- Junior Ava Lepro registered her first save of the half in the 39th minute and both senior Jayme Brown and Louis nearly added to the lead before the break as the Cougars held a 2-0 edge.
- To open the second half, Rivera, senior Cassidy Hubbard, junior Sadie Cohen, and senior Emma Shaughnessy all created chances that were stopped, with Hubbard's off a corner that was saved by the Mount Holyoke defense.
- Lepro tallied another save in the second half and first-year Marcela Gonyea and senior Gabriella Herivaux nearly scored as Clark held the Lyons to only two shots on target as the scarlet and white prevailed 2-0.
