Adeyemi Finds the Equalizer in 1-1 Draw at Salem State

SALEM, Mass. – Clark University men's soccer (3-6-1, 0-2-1 NEWMAC) traveled to Salem State University (5-3-3, 1-1-3 MASCAC) for its second-to-last non-conference matchup of the season. The Vikings struck first, but the Cougars responded in the second half as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

How it Happened

  • Both teams had early chances, with senior Diego Marin making his first save in the 10th minute, followed shortly by a shot on goal from senior Mauro Perez Colon in the 11th.

  • Salem State struck first, capitalizing on a defensive miscue as Jadiel Bomfirm found the back of the net before the Cougars could regroup.

  • The Vikings generated three more shots on goal before halftime, but Marin came up big with three saves to keep Clark within one at the break.

  • Clark came out firing in the second half, recording three shots on goal in the opening ten minutes.

  • The Cougars finally broke through in the 60th minute when senior Henry Kuerbis found sophomore Jordan Adeyemi, who fired a shot that deflected off a defender and into the back of the net for the equalizer.

  • Both teams combined for eight shots on goal in the final 30 minutes, but six saves from Marin and two from Brady Whitmarsh kept the score level as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
