SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Clark University women's soccer (7-5-5, 3-4-3 NEWMAC) closed out their season with a trip to Springfield College (8-8-0, 7-3-0 NEWMAC). The Pride blitzed out to an early lead and never looked back as they cruised to a 7-2 win.
How it Happened
-
The Pride opened the scoring just 13 seconds into the game when Kaitlyn Suller rebounded her own saved shot and scored on the second effort to make it 1-0.
-
Two minutes later, Springfield would strike again as a through ball from Jessica Perry set up Meredith Healy with a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper. Healy took full advantage, evading the tackle and finishing into an empty net.
-
Sophomore Solimar Rivera and first-year Calabria Augustino generated Clark's first chances with shots on goal in the 12th and 13th minutes.
-
In the 20th minute, the lead ballooned to three as Suller dribbled to the corner of the 18 and perfectly placed a shot into the top right corner of the goal.
-
Both goalies exchanged saves in the 21st and 22nd minutes—Suller was denied by junior Ava Lepro, while sophomore Georgia Louis had her shot steered away by Maired Marsden.
-
In the 27th minute, the Pride netted their fourth as a misplayed ball in front of the 18 allowed Rosie Turbett to chip the keeper and blow the game wide open.
-
Turbett struck again in the 38th minute, this time with a higher degree of difficulty as her contested shot just cleared the fingertips of the goalie to make it 5-0.
-
Clark got on the board late in the half when sophomore Selene Hammad buried a rebound on the doorstep to cut the deficit to 5-1 at the break.
-
The Cougars added another in the 68th minute as junior Ainsley Golini brought down a ball at the corner of the 18 before spinning into a perfect strike that found the far-right corner to make it 5-2.
-
The Pride answered in the 75th minute when a free kick was headed on goal by Turbett. The initial save bounced right to Peyton Knott, who cleaned up the rebound to make it 6-2.
-
Springfield capped the scoring in the 81st minute as Katie McFerran fired a ball across the face of goal to a waiting Knott, who tapped in her second goal in six minutes to seal a 7-2 victory.
