Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Rolls to 85-65 Win Over SUNY Old Westbury Behind Hot Shooting From Downtown

WESTFIELD, Mass.– Clark University men's basketball (2-2) wrapped up their time at the Rick Martin/Hampton Inn Classic with a matchup against SUNY Old Westbury (0-4). The Cougars used a 21-2 run in the first half to pull away, never looking back on their way to a 85-65 win.

How it Happened

  • The Cougars started hot from three with a make from sophomore Kyle Squires and two threes from senior Reid Neumann, giving Clark an early 10-8 advantage four minutes in.

  • After a Panthers run to take the lead, junior Quentin Pridgen swished a three to tie the game at 17 with just under 12 minutes left in the half.

  • Clark caught fire over the next eight minutes, starting with a Squires three and ending with a layup by first-year Trace Clark to cap a 21-2 run and make it 40-21 Cougars.

  • A diving pass from Pridgen found an open Emmett Hendry, and the junior knocked down a three at the first-half buzzer to give Clark a 45-25 halftime cushion.

  • First-Year Aliaun Iscandari would open the second half with not one, not two, but three triples to give the Cougars a quick 54-27 lead just four minutes into the half.

  • The Panthers would go on a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to under twenty, but a lay-up by Malik Matanmi ended the run and made it a twenty point lead once again.

  • The lead would remain in that range thanks to threes from Clark and Squires, as well as three free throws from Neumann. Neumann would follow that up with three the normal way to give the Cougars a 73-53 lead with six minutes to play.

  • That lead would hold over the final minutes with a late jumper by Squires putting the finishing touches on a 85-65 win for Clark.
