Three in Double-Figures as Men's Basketball Tops Brandeis, 74-68

WALTHAM, Mass.  – The Clark University men's basketball team (5-2) outscored Brandeis (2-4) in both half's and had three players reach double-figures as the scarlet and white prevailed 74-68 over the Judges on Tuesday night from the Red Auerbach Arena.

How it Happened
  • The Cougars jumped out to an early 7-6 lead as sophomore Boluwasefe John netted three points and both first-year Aliaun Iscandari and sophomore Kyle Squires scored before a triple from Elias Rodl gave the Judges a two-point edge.
  • The Judges then went on an 8-2 run despite two points from first-year Elijah Small before junior Christopher Clarke made a layup to make it a 16-11 contest in favor of Brandeis with 11:09 to go in the first half.
  • Senior Reid Neumann, John, Squires, and Iscandari combined for Clark's next eight points as they cut the deficit to four and a Neumann triple with 5:26 remaining in the half as the Cougars trailed 25-24.
  • John connected on an and-one, Small added four points, and Neumann hit another triple with 1:08 to go to give Clark the edge at 34-32 and an Iscandari three-pointer before the break gave the Cougars a 37-35 advantage heading into the half.
  • Neumann scored Clark's first six points of the second half with a pair of made triples to push the lead to as many as six at 43-37 before the Judges scored the next seven points and Iscandari hit a pair of free throws with 14:37 to play to give the Cougars a 45-44 edge.
  • Junior Quentin Pridgen and Squires combined for Clark's next four points to keep a 49-48 edge, but the Judges rattled off nine unanswered sparked by seven points from Alex Zakheim and an Iscandari layup ended the run to make it a 57-51 contest.
  • The Cougars rattled off nine of the next 13 points in the game led by six points from John and a made triple from Iscandari as the Cougars trailed 61-60 with 6:27 to play.
  • After a made jumper from Elias Rodl, Iscandari registered a steal and a made layup before Neumann connected on a fade away jumper in the corner to give the scarlet and white a 64-63 lead with 4:26 remaining.
  • John hit a pair of free throws to push the lead to three before Zakheim and Gur Dhillon combined for the contests next five points and a made layup from Iscandari with 2:15 to go tied the game at 68-68.
  • Neumann found a cutting John and John slammed the ball down with 1:41 remaining to give Clark the lead and a made layup from Iscandari pushed the Cougars lead to 72-68.
  • Clark held Brandeis scoreless over the last 2:36 of action and a pair of free throws from Iscandari helped guide the Cougars to a 74-68 victory.

  • Clark made 28 shots, grabbed 26 rebounds, dished out eight assists, and forced 17 turnovers.
  • Iscandari led the squad with 22 points on 8-13 shooting and tallied three steals.
  • John added a career-high 18 points sparked by eight made free throws, grabbed five rebounds, and blocked a pair of shots.
  • Neumann also reached double-figures with 16 points, connecting on four three-pointers and dished out four assists.
  • Pridgen pulled down a team-leading 10 rebounds and added three steals.

Clark will return to the court on Sunday afternoon when they welcome Nichols to the Kneller for a contest beginning at 1:00 p.m.
