Women's Basketball Closes Out 2025 With 66-53 Victory Over Suffolk

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's basketball team (8-3) played their final game of the 2025 portion of their schedule when they welcomed Suffolk (8-3) to the Kneller and came away with a 66-53 victory sparked by a career-high 22 points from first-year Atiya Watson on Tuesday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • The Cougars jumped out to an early 9-4 lead sparked by five points from Watson, including an and-one and four points from junior Emma Drefs.
  • Senior Kiley Drezek made a layup before the end of the quarter and a made free throw from Watson gave Clark a 12-8 advantage heading into the second quarter.
  • Senior Ashley Leighton opened the second with a made layup off an offensive rebound before junior Kailey Rios connected on a pair of triples off assists from sophomore Cyriah Coleman as the Cougars extended their lead to 22-14 with 4:56 to go.
  • Suffolk ended the quarter on a 11-5 run despite a made layup from Coleman and a made three-pointer from junior Catherine Antwi as the scarlet and white took a 27-25 advantage into the locker room.
  • The scarlet and white opened the third quarter by scoring eight unanswered points as Watson netted six of them and junior Olivia Shipley made a pair of free throws to extend their lead to 35-25 with 7:55 to go.
  • Coleman and Watson combined for Clark's next eight points before a jumper from Drezek pushed the lead to 13 at 45-32.
  • Coleman, Antwi, and first-year Gabrielle Watson all made free throws before the end of the quarter as the scarlet and white took a 50-40 edge into the fourth.
  • Antwi hit three triples to open the fourth and two more Watson points pushed the lead to as many as 16 at 61-45 with 4:57 remaining.
  • Shipley and junior Mia Mabanag combined for Clark's final five points of the afternoon as the scarlet and white prevailed 66-53.

  • Clark made 22 shots, grabbed 50 rebounds, dished out 17 assists, and forced 20 turnovers.
  • Watson netted a career-high 22 points, while shooting 7-14 from the floor and grabbed five rebounds.
  • Antwi also reached double-figures with 13 points and connected on four triples.
  • Coleman led the team with six assists, while adding six points and six rebounds.
  • Shipley pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, while tallying five points and three blocks.
  • 10 Cougars scored in the contest.
What's Next
The scarlet and white will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Trinity for a non-conference contest against the Bantams beginning at 2:00 p.m.
