Men's Swimming and Diving Places Eighth at 2025 Gompei Invitationals

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark men's swimming and diving team competed in the 2025 Gompei Invitational and closed out the 2025 portion of their schedule from Friday through Sunday from the WPI Pool and finished ninth overall with a score of 1,325.

Friday
  • In the 200-yard medley relay Samuel Bier, Theo Bayne, Declan Hanscom, and Bradyn Potter placed 19th overall with a mark of 1:48;07.
  • Michael Villalba, Owen Powers, Daniel Neau, and Nick Cordell finished 20th with a time of 1:58.61.
  • Bier (5:10.10), Cordell (5:15.21), and Max Klein (5:29.92) later competed in the C Final of the 500-yard freestyle event and placed third, seventh, and ninth overall.
  • Potter (24.46), Joseph Genovesi (24.79), Hanscom (25.04), and Gabriel Graphia (26.48) all competed in the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries.
  • In the 100-yard butterfly preliminaries, Hanscom (1:01.24), Cordell (1:01.98), Graphia (1:10.17), and Daniel Neau (1:17.73) all swam.
  • In the 800-yard freestyle, Bier, Potter, Villalba, and Cordell finished 14th with a time of 7:58.70.
  • Bier, Whitney, Hanscom, and Davidson competed in the 200-yard mixed medley relay and clocked a mark of 1:50.96.
Saturday
  • In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Potter, Cordell, Villalba, and Bier placed 17th overall with a time of 1:36.59.
  • Bier swam in the A Final of the 50-yard backstroke and placed eighth overall with a mark of 26.83.
  • Bayne competed in the B Final of the 400-yard individual medley and finished ninth with a mark of 4:51.42.
  • Bier reached the B Final of the 100-yard backstroke and posted a time of 58.00, which ranked eighth overall, while Villalba competed in the C Final (1:02.16).
  • In the 100-yard butterfly, Potter (26.51) swam in the B Final and Hanscom (26.80) placed second in the C Final, while Neau (30.93) also swam.
  • Hanscom (30.87), Klein (31.53), and Neau (33.92) competed in the 50-yard backstroke B Final.
  • Bayne (1:06.55) later swam in the C Final of the 100-yard breaststroke and placed seventh.
  • In the 400-yard medley relay, Cordell, Bayne, Bier, and Villalba finished 18th overall with a time of 4:01.96,
Sunday
  • Bier competed in the B Final of the 200-yard backstroke and placed seventh with a time of 2:07.63.
  • Villalba (2:12.46) and Klein (2:19.06) swam in the 200-yard backstroke C Final.
  • In the 100-yard individual medley C Final, Bayne (1:02.07) and Potter (1:02.21) placed second and third.
  • Neau finished fifth in the 200-yard butterfly C Final with a mark of 2:54.53.
  • Bayne competed in the C Final of the 50-yard breaststroke and placed eighth with a time of 30.51.
  • Bier (18:24.92), Cordell (18:48.77), Klein (19:24.35), Villalba (20:22.45), and Powers (20:47.54) swam in the 1,650-freestyle.
  • In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Bier, Potter, Cordell, and Villalba placed 18th overall with a mark of 3:33.22.
What's Next
The Cougars will return to the water on Saturday, January 10 when they host the University of Saint Joseph's (Ct.) for a meet beginning at 1:00 p.m.
