WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's basketball team (14-7, 10-2 NEWMAC) closed out their season series against Coast Guard (7-13, 3-8 NEWMAC) with a convincing 68-50 victory over the Bears in their black history month themed game from the Kneller Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- The Cougars and Bears traded baskets early in the contest as Clark held an 11-9 lead sparked by six points from senior Bruce Saintilus, a made triple from graduate student Jordan Richard, and a layup from senior Kekoa McArdle.
- After Coast Guard tied the game, the Cougars went on a 10-0 run as senior Isaiah Taylor scored four points and got points from first-year Boluwasefe John, Saintilus, and sophomore Quentin Pridgen as Clark held a 21-11 edge with 9:40 remaining in the first half.
- The Bears rattled off five straight before first-year Kyle Squires and Taylor scored four straight and a pair of dunks from John gave Clark a 29-21 advantage.
- The Cougars ended the half on a 7-6 run as Taylor hit a triple, McArdle added three points, and a Richard free throw gave the scarlet and white a 36-27 lead entering the locker room.
- Clark opened the second half 19-2 run, holding the Bears to just two points over the first 7:30 of play and were led by six points from McArdle, four from both Neumann and Saintilus, a Richard triple, and two John points gave the Cougars a 55-29 advantage.
- Saintilus and Pridgen each hit a pair of free throws in the middle of the second half before a layup from first-year Nathan Charlot with 8:08 remaining gave the scarlet and white a 61-35 lead.
- Neumann, John, and first-year Kyle Squires combined for Clark's final seven points of the game as the Cougars prevailed 68-50 over the Bears.
