Men's Lacrosse Records 13-8 Victory Over St. Joe's

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (3-1) played their final game before spring break when they welcome St. Joseph's (2-2) to Granger and came away with a 13-8 victory on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • Graduate student Casey McCullough stopped four shots over the first four minutes of play before fellow graduate student Attilio LaVecchia found the back of the cage off a feed from senior Matt Wells to give Clark a 1-0 lead.
  • The Cougars extended the advantage to 2-0 with 7:00 left in the first quarter when graduate student Matthew Minkwitz scored off a feed from junior Thomas Michaud.
  • LaVecchia and Minkwitz each scored before the end of the quarter off feeds from both graduate student Colin Howard and sophomore Tate Gorman as Clark came away with a 4-0 victory.
  • First-year Michael Berman Annunziata added to the Cougars lead with a goal early in the second off a pass from Michaud and after a goal from Evan Baden, Minkwitz added his third goal of the game to take a 6-1 lead.
  • Senior Matt Wells hit a cutting Howard for a man-up goal before the half as the scarlet and white took a 7-2 edge entering the locker room.
  • The Cougars scored the only three goals of the third quarter as LaVecchia scored and Michaud added two goals as the scarlet and white took a 10-2 lead into the fourth.
  • Aidan D'Amato scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter before Liddy and LaVecchia added two unanswered goals as the Cougars held a 12-4 edge with 7:55 remaining.
  • Howard added Clark's last goal of the game with 2:05 to go as the scarlet and white came away with a 13-8 win over the Blue Jays.

  • Clark attempted 44 shots, scooped up 49 ground balls, won 16 faceoffs, converted 24 clears, and forced 30 turnovers.
  • McCullough recorded 13 saves and earned his third victory of the year.
  • LaVecchia led the Cougars with four goals and dished out a pair of assists.
  • Minkwitz added a hat trick with three goals and recorded an assist.
  • Michaud tallied four points as he netted two goals and dished out two assists.
  • Howard, Liddy, Berman Annunziata, Gorman and Wells also tallied points.
  • Wharton scooped up a team-high seven ground balls and caused three turnovers.
  • First-year Huy Doan (6), junior Patrick O'Rourke (5), and first-year Spencer Arzanipour (5) led the team in faceoffs.

The Cougars will take on the University of Texas in an exhibition game on Wednesday afternoon.
