Baseball Bested by Mitchell

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team (11-4) played their third game of a four-game homestand against Mitchell (6-12) and dropped the contest 12-10 on Friday afternoon from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • The Mariners plated six runs in the first two innings before graduate student Ryan Caulfield, junior Dom Mariani, and senior Tyler Jones each reached base in the bottom of the second before Mitchell got out of the jam.
  • Mitchell added three runs over the next two innings and senior Carter Doran singled through the left side to bring home graduate student Anthony LoCasto as Clark trailed 9-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
  • After trailing 11-1 entering the bottom of the sixth, graduate student Billy Sullivan hit a three-RBI triple down the right field line, junior Brayden Hollinrake drove in a run, and Jones brought home two runs with a double to make it an 11-7 contest.
  • First-year Robby Roth pitched a scoreless top of the seventh and in the bottom of the eighth, Hollinrake recorded an RBI, LoCasto homered to left field, and sophomore Michael Salzillo scored off a fielding error as Clark pulled within two at 12-10.
  • After sophomore Jacob Kline tossed a scoreless ninth, Caulfield reached third in the bottom of the ninth before the Mariners got out of the jam to win the game.

  • Sullivan recorded three hits, three RBI's, and a triple.
  • LoCasto, Hollinrake, and Jones each drove in two runs.
  • Salzillo tallied two hits, two runs, and stole a base.
  • Roth tossed 1.2 innings and struck out three batters.
  • Kline threw 1.1 scoreless innings.
What's Next
Clark will open up NEWMAC play on Tuesday afternoon when they welcome Emerson to Granger Field for a contest beginning at 3:30 p.m.
