Softball Splits Series Against Regis

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (7-5) played their first games in Massachusetts of the year when they hosted Regis (4-8) and split the series with a win in game one and loss in game two on Saturday afternoon.
 
Game One: Clark 3, Regis 0
  • Junior Brooke Buzzeo tossed a scoreless first inning before sophomore Charlise Quigley singled in the bottom of the first, but the Pride got out of the inning.
  • The Cougars loaded the bases in the bottom of the second as juniors Felicia Salvati, Erin Slavin, and Madison Dillon reached base before Regis recorded the final out of the inning.
  • Buzzeo continued dealing on the mound as she only allowed one base runner from the third through fifth inning before Clark's offense exploded for three runs as junior Emilie Spence, sophomore Megan Dube, and first-year Avery Della Piana all recorded RBI's to take a 3-0 lead.
  • Buzzeo closed the door on the Pride with two scoreless innings as the Cougars prevailed 3-0 in game one.
Game Two: Regis 8, Clark 3
  • Regis plated four runs in the top of the first before Dube held the Pride to no runs in the top of the second.
  • In the bottom of the second, Della Piana, Salvati, and Dillon all reached base before Regis got out of the jam.
  • After the Pride scored four in the third, graduate student Rebecca Mauro drove in a run and Piana recorded a pair of RBI's as the Cougars made it an 8-3 game.
  • Sophomore Hannah Wagstaff tossed four scoreless innings over the remainder of the game, but the Pride prevailed 8-3.
What's Next
The Cougars will return to the field on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Worcester State for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m.
