Softball Loses Twin Bill in Crosstown Series at Worcester State

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (7-7) traveled across town to Worcester State (7-4) for a NEWMAC doubleheader and dropped both games to the Lancers on Tuesday night from the Worcester State Softball Field.

Game One: Worcester State 8, Clark 2
  • Sophomore Charlise Quigley recorded Clark's first hit of the game in the opening at-bat with a single to center field before the Lancers got out of the inning.
  • After three runs scored by Worcester State in the bottom of the first, first-year Avery belted a two-RBI triple to right field that plated first-year Gricelda Castro and junior Felicia Salvati to pull the Cougars within one at 3-2.
  • Junior Brooke Buzzeo tossed a scoreless second inning before the Lancers scored five runs over the next two innings.
  • Dillon tallied her second hit of the game and Quigley was hit by a pitch in the seventh, but fell 8-2.
Game Two: Worcester State 10, Clark 6
  • Quigley opened game two with a leadoff double to right, but was left on base before Worcester State scored in the bottom of the inning.
  • The Lancers plated five runs over the next two innings and after a three-run fourth from Worcester State, Clark plated two runs as Avery Dillon and first-year Avery Della Piana both drove in runs as juniors Madison Dillon and Caitriona Andre scored.
  • Sophomore Hannah Wagstaff tossed a scoreless fifth inning, Avery Dillon, graduate student Rebecca Mauro, and Della Piana each recorded RBI's to make it a 9-6 contest.
  • Worcester State added another run in the sixth and Madison Dillon singled in the seventh, but the Lancers prevailed 10-6.
What's Next
The scarlet and white will welcome Wellesley to O'Brien for a NEWMAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon beginning at 12:00 p.m.
