Baseball Shuts Out Lesley on Wednesday Night, 16-0

LEXINGTON, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team (13-4) played their second game in two days when they traveled to Lesley (4-9) for a non-conference contest and plated 16 runs in a convincing 16-0 victory over the Lynx on Wednesday night from Minuteman High School.

How it Happened
  • Graduate student Casey Gorczyca tossed a scoreless first inning before sophomore Chas Caron roped a two-RBI single that brought home junior Jake Faulkenham and junior Brayden Hollinrake as Clark led 2-0.
  • Gorczyca retired the side in order in the second inning and in the top of the third, graduate student Billy Sullivan scored off a ball hit by fellow graduate student Ryan Caulfield as the Cougars extended their edge to 3-0.
  • In the top of the fourth, senior Carter Doran and Sullivan each tallied RBI's and added two more runs in the fifth with two more RBI's from Doran and Sullivan as the scarlet and white led 7-0.
  • Sophomore Jacob Kline entered the game in the bottom of the fifth and struck out the side and struck out three in the sixth.
  • Clark batted around in the seventh as they plated nine runs led by runs scored by junior Alfonso Jalil, Doran, and junior James Webster, an RBI from first-year Dominic Belle, a two-RBI single from Faulkenham, and a three-run blast from Jalil as the Cougars led 16-0.
  • Graduate student Heath Cockburn closed out the game for Clark by retiring the side in order as the Cougars won 16-0.
Inside the Stats
  • Jalil tallied two hits, three RBI's, scored two runs, and belted a homer.
  • Caron added three hits, two RBI's, scored two runs, and recorded a triple.
  • Doran, Sullivan, and Faulkenham also drove in a pair of runs.
  • Belle and Farrell each recorded RBI's.
  • Gorczyca tossed four scoreless innings, only allowed one hit, and struck out three batters.
  • Kline registered two innings pitched, struck out all six batters, and allowed no runs.
  • Cockburn tossed a scoreless seventh inning and struck out two batters.

The Cougars will travel to Coast Guard for a Saturday NEWMAC doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
