NORTON, Mass. – The Clark University men's tennis team (4-8, 1-2 NEWMAC) competed in their first conference road match of the season at Wheaton (2-8. 1-2 NEWMAC) and earned their first conference win with a 5-2 victory over the Lyons on Saturday morning from the Beard Field House.
How it Happened
Doubles: Clark 3, Wheaton 0
- Graduate student Tanner Honnef and senior Ryan Hovey also tallied a 6-4 win against Jake Murray and Calvin Van Dyke in number two action to earn Clark's first doubles win.
- Junior Graham Russo and first-year Ziad Tabbara clinched the doubles point by recording a 6-4 victory in number three doubles over Pablo Munoz and Daniel Bor.
- In number one doubles, sophomore Aris Kirkorian and junior Edward Shepherd-Johnson registered a 6-4 victory over Paul Bertaux and Jaime Galligo.
Singles: Clark 4, Wheaton 2
- Tabbara earned Clark's first singles victory by a convincing 6-0, 6-1 margin against Munoz in number three play.
- Kirkorian tallied the Cougars second singles win of the day with a 6-0, 6-2 victory in number two singles over Berteaux.
- Russo sealed the victory for Clark with a 6-4, 7-5 win in number four action against Van Dyke.
- Honnef battled with Daniel Bor in number six play and after falling 6-7 in the first set, rallied in the final two sets to win 6-4, 13-11.
- Shepherd-Johnson won the first set in number one singles 6-4 before falling 2-6, 6-10 in the final two sets to Galligo.
- Hovey's match also went three sets as he took the first set 6-2, but dropped the final two sets 5-7, 1-6 to Murray.
What's Next
The scarlet and white will return to the court on Wednesday afternoon when they travel across town to Holy Cross for a contest beginning at 3:30 p.m.
