Softball Tops Emmanuel in Game Two on Tuesday

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Clark University softball team (5-1) recorded a split with an extra inning loss to Saint Vincent (2-4) and a victory against Emmanuel (1-4) from the Diamond Plex Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

Game One: St. Vincent 5, Clark 4 (F/9)
  • Junior Brooke Buzzeo tossed a scoreless first and second inning before junior Ella Traynor drove in a run with a walk that plated sophomore Jennifer Albano to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third.
  • First-year Merry Griffin entered the game in the bottom of the fourth and pitched a scoreless fourth before first-year Avery Dillon came around to score to extend the edge to 2-0.
  • St. Vincent scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead a 3-2 edge and in the top of the seventh, graduate student Rebecca Mauro belted an RBI double that plated junior Emily Spence.
  • Sophomore Megan Dube tossed a scoreless eighth and in the top of the ninth, Albano scored off an RBI from first-year Avery Dillon before Saint Vincent walked off in the bottom of the ninth to win 5-4.
Game Two: Clark 7, Emmanuel 5
  • Emmanuel jumped out a 2-0 lead in the top of the first before Clark rallied to score four in the bottom of the second as junior Madison Dillon and Avery Dillon each drove in runs while Spence and Avery Dillon scored off an error as the Cougars took a 4-2 edge.
  • The Saints scored twice in the top of the third to tie the game before the Cougars plated three runs as Mauro drove in a run and Traynor belted a two-RBI double to give the scarlet and white a 7-4 lead.
  • Buzzeo came in and closed the door on the Saints with a three-inning save as the Cougars recorded a 7-5 victory in game two.
What's Next
The scarlet and white will return to the field on Thursday morning when they take on North Central (10:30) and Gustavus Adolphus College (12:45) from the Fortune Rd Complex.
