WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Clark University softball team (6-2) opened the day with a victory over North Central (0-8) before falling to Gustavus Adolphus (7-6) on Thursday from the Fortune Road Complex.
Game One: Clark 15, North Central 2 (F/5)
- North Central jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI single before sophomore Megan Dube tossed a scoreless second inning on the bump.
- Clark plated nine runs in the top of the third as first-year Avery Dillon, graduate student Rebecca Mauro, Dube, first-year Avery Della Piana, junior Felicia Salvati, junior Erin Slavin, and junior Madison Dillon all drove in runs as the Cougars led 9-1.
- After North Central added another run in the bottom of the third before sophomore Charlise Quigley and Slavin both recorded RBI's in the top of the fourth to extend the edge to 11-2.
- Sophomore Hannah Wagstaff entered the game in the bottom of the fourth and tossed two shutout innings and Clark's offense tallied four more runs as Della Piana and Salvati both scored and drove in runs as the scarlet and white recorded a 15-2 victory.
Game Two: Gustavus Adolphus 5, Clark 3
- Junior Brooke Buzzeo took the bump for the Cougars and threw three shutout innings before junior Emelie Spence drove in a run and came around to score on a wild pitch as Clark took a 2-0 lead.
- Adolphus cut the deficit to one in the top of the fourth before Quigley recorded a single through the right side that plated Salvati to push the edge back up to 3-1.
- Gustavus added three runs in the top of the fifth and one in the seventh before Spence and Avery Dillon reached first and second with two outs and Mauro coming to the dish.
- Mauro lined a ball on a rope to right field, but the right fielder made a play on the ball as the Cougars fell 5-3.
What's Next
The scarlet and white will close out their spring break trip tomorrow when they take on Eastern University (9:30 a.m.) and Adrian (1:45 p.m.)
