SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Clark University men's tennis team (4-10, 2-3 NEWMAC) battled with Springfield (12-2, 4-1 NEWMAC) and were bested 4-3 by the Pride on Sunday afternoon from the Appleton Tennis Courts.
How it Happened
Doubles: Springfield 2, Clark 1
- Junior Edward Shepherd-Johnson and senior Ryan Hovey earned Clark's first win of the day in number one doubles 6-3 against Matsudaira and Villanueva.
- Sophomore Adham Seraj and first-year Daniel Levin battled to a tiebreak in number three doubles before dropping the back-and-forth match 6-7 (3-7).
- In number two doubles, junior Graham Russo and first-year Ziad Tabbara took three games, but fell 3-6 to Kimoto and Sablon.
Singles: Clark 3, Springfield 3
- Shepherd-Johnson clinched his second victory of the day in a thrilling three set match that ended 6-4, 5-7, 10-4 in number one play.
- Tabbara also played a three set contest in number two singles and rallied back to win 3-6, 6-2, 10-6.
- Hovey earned Clark's third win of the day in number four action, tallying a 5-7, 6-4, 10-3 win.
- Russo won six games across two sets in number three play, but dropped his match 4-6, 2-6.
- In number six singles, Levin tallied five games won in his 2-6, 3-6 loss.
- Seraj retired due to injury in number five action.

Clark will travel to Salve Regina on Wednesday for their final road match of the season against the Seahawks beginning at 3:00 p.m.
