NEWPORT, R.I. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (6-10, 3-6 NEWMAC) traveled to Salve Regina (4-10, 3-6 NEWMAC) and were tied at halftime with the Seahawks, but were bested 15-8 on Saturday afternoon from Gaudet Field.
How it Happened
- Senior Meghan Fogarty gave Clark an early 1-0 lead with a goal shortly after a free position attempt and after a pair of goals from Salve, fellow senior Aubrey Conners tied the contest at 2-2 with 11:09 to play in the first.
- Conners netted her second goal of the game midway through the first and after the Seahawks tied the game, sophomore Sarah Forrester scored off a feed from Conners to give the Cougars a 4-3 lead.
- The Seahawks tied the game again shortly after as both teams traded punches before Forrester converted a free position shot to push Clark's edge back to one at 5-4 and despite a pair of saves from senior Annie battle, Salve tied the game at 5-5.
- Both defenses settled down early in the second as Battle tallied two more saves and after a Seahawk goal, junior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia netted a free position goal to tie the contest back up at 6-6.
- Senior Erin Lucas found the back of the cage with a free position goal before the half as the teams entered the break in a stalemate at 7-7.
- First-year Sydney McMonagle nearly gave Clark an early lead in the third, but saw her shot saved and after three goals from Salve, Conners fired a shot that was stopped as the Cougars trailed 10-7.
- Salve added two more goals before Elizabeth Cacciapaglia dished out an assist to Fogarty and the senior found the back of the cage to make it a 12-8 contest.
- Cacciapaglia, Fogarty, and first-year Paige Kemish each created chances before the end of the game that were saved as the scarlet and white fell 15-8.
