DUDLEY, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (14-15) opened their week by taking game one 4-3 before falling 4-2 in game two to Nichols (23-9) on Tuesday afternoon from the Nichols Softball Field.

Game One: Clark 4, Nichols 3

• Clark jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as first-year Avery Dillon belted an RBI double down the right field line to bring home sophomore Charlise Quigley before junior Brooke Buzzeo retired the Bison in order in the bottom of the inning.
• Junior Caitriona Andre drew and walk to open the second and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from Quigley before the Bison got out of the jam.
• Buzzeo tossed another scoreless second and third before helping her own cause with a run scored off an RBI single from Quigley to extend the lead to 2-0.
• Buzzeo's shutout was intact through five innings before graduate student Rebecca Mauro and first-year Avery Della Piana each recorded RBI's to push the edge to 4-0.
• Nichols scored three runs off of errors in the sixth and had the bases loaded with two outs before Buzzeo forced a ground out to second base as Clark held a 4-3 edge.
• After allowing a leadoff double in the seventh, Buzzeo slammed the door by retiring the next three batters to help the Cougars earn a 4-3 victory.

Game Two: Nichols 4, Clark 2

• Mauro tallied an RBI in the first inning with a single up the middle that plated Quigley as Clark held an early 1-0 lead.
• Nichols scored a run in both the first and second inning before the Bison hit a two-run homer in the third to take a 4-1 edge.
• Mauro singled in the fourth, but was left on base and sophomore Megan Dube tossed a scoreless fourth and fifth before Dube hit an RBI single to center field to make it a 4-2 game in the sixth.
•  The Bison set Clark down in order in the seventh to prevail 4-2.

The Cougars will close out their season series against Salve Regina tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. from O'Brien Softball Field.
