WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (14-16, 4-8 NEWMAC) closed out their series against Salve Regina (10-20, 5-9 NEWMAC) and were bested 8-5 by the Seahawks on Wednesday afternoon from O'Brien Field.
How it Happened
- The Seahawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead off an RBI double before sophomore Megan Dube retired the side in order in the top of the second.
- First-year Gricelda Castro recorded Clark's first hit of the game in the second inning with a single to center, but was left on base.
- After Dube retired the side in order in the top of the third sophomore Charlise Quigley tripled to center field to bring home junior Madison Dillon to tie the game at 1-1.
- Salve Regina plated two runs in the top of the fourth off a two-RBI double and three runs in the top of the fifth.
- Clark rallied with four runs in the bottom of the fifth as Quigley, graduate student Rebecca Mauro, and Dube each drove in runs as the scarlet and white trailed 6-5.
- The Seahawks added two more runs before junior Brooke Buzzeo retired the final two batters of the sixth in relief before junior Emelie Spence and M. Dillon reached base in the bottom of the inning, but Salve Regina got out of the jam.
- In the seventh, Mauro and Castro were at the corners before the Seahawks retired the final batter of the game to win 8-5.
