Baseball Bested by WNE on Wednesday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team (22-11) played their second game in four days with a road contest at WNE (19-12) and were bested 16-5 by the Golden Bears on Wednesday afternoon from Trelease Park.

How it Happened
  • Junior Michael Soares and graduate student Ryan Caulfield each reached base in the top of the first before WNE plated four runs in the bottom of the inning sparked by a two-RBI single.
  • Clark answered with three runs in the top of the second as first-year Cole Camara drove home senior Tyler Jones, senior Carter Doran belted an RBI double to left center, and graduate student Billy Sullivan brought home Doran to make it a 4-3 game.
  • The Golden Bears added three runs in the second before sophomore Brendan Bruun tossed a scoreless third and after WNE added two more runs in the fourth, first-year Taejun Tow pitched a scoreless fifth.
  • Doran hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth that brought home Camara as Clark trailed 9-4 in the sixth and after four more runs from WNE, Jones singled to right and brought home Caulfield for the Cougars final run of the game.
Inside the Stats
  • Doran recorded two hits, two RBI's, a double, and a run scored.
  • Sullivan, Jones, and Camara also recorded RBI's in the game.
  • Tow tossed a scoreless inning in the fifth.
What's Next
Clark will return to the field on Thursday when they travel to Nichols for a contest against the Bison beginning at 3:30 p.m.
