WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (14-18, 4-10 NEWMAC) traveled down Park Ave to take on WPI (20-11, 9-5 NEWMAC) on Friday afternoon and dropped both games to the Engineers from Rooftop Field.
Game One: WPI 9, Clark 0 (F/5)
- Graduate student Rebecca Mauro and sophomore Megan Dube each tallied hits in the first inning, but the Engineers got out of the jam.
- Dube tossed a scoreless first before junior Madison Dillon recorded an infield single in the top of the second before WPI got out of the inning and the Engineers plated a pair of runs sparked by a homer and RBI single.
- First-year Avery Dillon singled and Dube drew a walk in the third, but WPI recorded the final out of the inning and in the bottom of the inning the Engineers plated three more runs to go up 5-0.
- After four more WPI runs, junior Emelie Spence and sophomore Charlise Quigley each recorded hits to open the fifth before the Engineers recorded the final three outs of the game as they took game one 9-0.
Game Two: WPI 11, Clark 8
- Clark jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as first-year Avery Della Piana drove in both Mauro and Quigley before WPI plated five runs in the bottom of the inning.
- The Cougars tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the second as Dube recorded an RBI and Della Piana tallied two more RBI's.
- WPI plated a run in the bottom of the second and three in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 9-5.
- Clark's offense continued to chip away with three runs as Della Piana drove home Mauro, Dube scored on a passed ball, and Della Piana scored off an error to make it a 9-8 game.
- Junior Brooke Buzzeo tossed a scoreless fifth before WPI added two more runs in the fifth to push their advantage to 11-8.
- Mauro and first-year Gricelda Castro each drew walks in the sixth as Clark's final baserunners of the game, but were left on base as the Cougars dropped the series to the Engineers.

The Cougars will return to the field Sunday afternoon when they travel to Springfield for a NEWMAC doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
