Baseball Closes Out Non-Conference Play With 9-4 Victory Over St. Joseph's

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Clark University baseball team (23-12) closed out non-conference play with a road game against the University of Saint Joseph (22-14) and put up nine runs as they prevailed 9-4 on Friday morning from Dunkin Park, home of the Hartford Yard Goats.

How it Happened
  • The Cougars jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as senior Carter Doran scored off an error, junior Dom Mariani belted an RBI double down the line, and graduate student Ryan Caulfield scored off an error off a ball hit by junior Alfonso Jalil.
  • Graduate student Benjamin Spencer tossed a scoreless first before Doran belted a homer to left field to push the advantage to 4-0.
  • Spencer allowed no runs in the second and in the top of the third, junior Brayden Hollinrake hit an RBI double to left field that brought home Mariani as Clark held a 5-0 advantage.
  • Spencer tossed scoreless third and fourth innings before first-year Robby Roth pitched a scoreless fifth inning in relief.
  • The Blue Jays plated two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh before Hollinrake recorded an RBI that brought home Caulfield to extend the lead to 6-4 in the top of the eighth.
  • After a scoreless eighth from senior Sean Borden, first-year Cole Camara hit a homer, senior Ryan Bonja belted an RBI double, and Mariani brought home junior Jake Faulkenham as Clark led 9-4.
  • Graduate student Casey Gorczyca retired the side in order in the ninth to help the Cougars tally a victory.
Inside the Stats
  • Doran reached base four times, scored three runs, homered, and stole two bases,
  • Mariani tallied three hits, drove in a pair of runs, and scored once.
  • Hollinrake drove in a pair of runs and tallied a pair of hits.
  • Camara also recorded a homer.
  • Spencer tossed 4.0 scoreless innings and struck out four batters.
  • Junior Matthew Donahue, Borden, and Gorczyca also allowed no runs in relief.

Clark will play their final home game of the 2025 season when they welcome WPI to Granger for a NEWMAC contest beginning at 10:30 a.m.
