WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (15-21, 5-13 NEWMAC) played their final two home games of the season against Babson (22-13, 12-6 NEWMAC) and walked off game one with a three-run homer from graduate student
Rebecca Mauro and dropped game two on Wednesday afternoon from O'Brien Field.
Game One: Clark 5, Babson 4
- Junior Brooke Buzzeo retired the side in order in the first inning before sophomore Charlise Quigley drew a walk and reached second, but was left on base.
- After Buzzeo sat down the Beavers in order again in the second inning, Babson plated a run in the third off an RBI single.
- Quigley and first-year Avery Dillon both singled in the bottom of the third before the Beavers got out of the jam.
- Buzzeo pitched a scoreless fourth and fifth before Babson scored a pair of runs off an RBI triple and double to make it a 3-0 game.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Mauro and junior Felicia Salvati each scored off errors to cut the deficit to 3-2.
- The Beavers added a run in the seventh and after both Quigley and Avery Dillon reached base, Mauro belted a three-run homer to right center to help the Cougars record a 5-4 walk-off win.
Game Two: Babson 11, Clark 1 (F/5)
- The Beavers plated two runs in the top of the first off a pair of RBI singles and in the bottom of the inning, Avery Dillon tallied Clark's lone hit with a single to right field.
- Babson scored two more runs in the second before Salvati and first-year Gricelda Castro each hit singles in the bottom half of the inning.
- After a shutout inning from sophomore Megan Dube, Mauro belted an RBI double to right center that brought home Quigley to make it a 4-1 game.
- The Beavers added five runs in the fourth and two in the fifth before junior Emelie Spence, Avery Dillon, and Mauro all reached base, but were left on as they fell 11-1.
What's Next
The Cougars will close out the regular season tomorrow afternoon when they travel to MIT for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
