NORTON, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (11-11, 2-4 NEWMAC) took game one 2-1 and fell 4-2 in game two against Wheaton (19-5, 4-2 NEWMAC) in a pair of pitcher's duels on Sunday afternoon from Clark Softball Field.
Game One: Clark 2, Wheaton 1
- First-year Avery Della Piana drew a walk in the top of the first, but was left on base before sophomore Megan Dube retired the Lyons in order in the bottom of the inning.
- Clark took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Dube helped her own cause on the mound by scoring off a failed pickoff attempt.
- Dube tossed another scoreless inning in the second before recording an RBI single to left field that brought home graduate student Rebecca Mauro to extend the edge to 2-0.
- Wheaton got a runner to third in the bottom of the third before Dube forced a flyout to end the inning.
- In the fourth, Wheaton cut the deficit to 2-1 with a homer to left from Ella Molinari and Dube got out of the inning four batters later with a forced ground out.
- Sophomore Charlise Quigley reached base off a walk in the fifth and Dube held the Lyons scoreless to keep the score 2-1 entering the sixth.
- Wheaton had a pair of runners reach scoring position in the sixth before Dube struck Sangeeta Vaidya out looking to end the inning.
- Dube closed the door on the Lyons with three groundouts in the bottom of the seventh as the Cougars prevailed 2-1.
Game Two: Wheaton 4, Clark 2
- Junior Brooke Buzzeo retired the side in order in the first before Wheaton plated a run off a passed ball in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead.
- The Lyons scored three runs in the third before Clark got their first baserunners of the game as Quigley and Mauro both reached base, with Mauro tallying an RBI single to make it a 4-1 game.
- Buzzeo retired the next nine batters of the game she faced from the fourth to sixth innings and junior Felicia Salvati roped a double to left center that plated Mauro, but Clark fell 4-2 as Peyton Blankenheim-Brown retired the final batter of the game.

The Cougars will close out their four-game road trip with a doubleheader at Nichols beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
