Men's Lacrosse Closes Non-Conference Play with 11-8 Win Over Keene State

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (7-5) closed out non-conference play with a spree day game against Keene State (5-6) and came away with an 11-8 victory sparked by a five-goal second quarter on Tuesday afternoon from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • Keene State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before senior Matt Wells got Clark on the board with a goal off a feed from graduate student Patrick Liddy with 12:08 to go in the first.
  • Senior Ryan Kerr netted a man-up goal off a Wells pass to tie the game at 2-2 before Ty Cougler pushed the Owls lead back to one.
  • Graduate student Matthew Minkwitz scored the equalizer with a man-up goal off a pass from Wells as the scarlet and white made it a 3-3 contest entering the second.
  • Junior Lucas Cuda pushed the Cougars in front with a goal early in the second quarter before the Owls tied the game at 4-4 in the middle of the second.
  • Graduate student Casey McCullough stopped three shots before Clark ended the second with four goals as graduate student Colin Howard, Minkwitz, Wells, and Liddy netted goals to take an 8-4 lead entering the half.
  • Wells recorded his hat trick early in the third before Keene State found the back of the cage twice despite caused turnovers from junior Brett Newman, graduate student Jason Tautel, and first-year Thomas Sheehan as the Cougars led 9-6.
  • Clark added a pair of goals as Liddy and Wells each scored to push the lead to as many as five at 11-6 and ended up coming away with an 11-8 victory with three more McCullough saves coming in the fourth.
