Doran, Flaherty, Mariani, LoCasto Garner Baseball All-NEWMAC Accolades

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – Four members of the Clark University baseball team were named to the All-NEWMAC Teams as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Carter Doran was named to the All-NEWMAC First Team and junior Tommy Flaherty, junior Dom Mariani, and graduate student Anthony LoCasto earned All-NEWMAC Second Team honors. This is Doran's second All-NEWMAC recognition and the first for Flaherty, Mariani, and LoCasto.

Doran (Natick, Mass.) led the team in batting average (.383), hits (57), runs (48), RBI's (41), walks (27), and tied for the team-high in doubles with 15. The senior outfielder also swiped 15 bags and hit four homers. Doran tallied 15 multi-hit games this season, including a career-high four-hit effort against Mass. Maritime. In conference play, Doran batted .371, recorded 23 hits, scored 18 runs, and drove in 16 runs. Doran tallied three hits in wins against Babson, Springfield, and WPI.

Flaherty (London, England) recorded a team-leading 3.12 ERA across 60.2 innings pitched. The junior tallied seven wins on the bump in eighteen appearances and struck out 65 batters. Hitters only hit .269 against Flaherty and tallied a save. Flaherty's ERA fell in conference play with a 2.56 ERA across 38.2 innings pitched in 11 games and struck out 39 batters. He earned conference victories on the bump against Emerson, Babson, Salve Regina, Wheaton, Springfield, and WPI. Flaherty allowed no runs in seven different outings on the season.

Mariani (Walpole, Mass.) led the squad in OPS (1.105), total bases (94), doubles (15), slugging percentage (.657), and triples (5). He ranked second on the team in average (.378), runs (44), RBI's (40), and hit by pitch (8). Mariani recorded 18 multi-hit games, including eight in conference play. In a victory over Salve Regina, Mariani drove in four runs and belted a pair of doubles. Against Coast Guard, Mariani tallied four hits in the series, drove in five runs, and hit a homer. Led the squad with two hits and a double against Wheaton in the NEWMAC's.

LoCasto (New Rochelle, N.Y.) led the team with six homers, drove in 26 runs, totaled 46 bases, and tallied 23 hits. Behind the dish, LoCasto threw out 11 batters, tallied 28 assists, and posted a .977 fielding percentage. He recorded a career-high six RBI's and homered in a Florida game against Moravian. In two games against WPI, LoCasto hit two homers and drove in seven runs. In NEWMAC's against Wheaton, he belted a homer.
