HARTFORD, Conn. – The Clark University volleyball team (1-5) registered their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Hartford (2-4) on Tuesday night from Chase Arena.
Clark took the first set 25-21, won the second 25-19, dropped the third set 14-25, and tallied a 25-18 victory.
How it Happened
- The Cougars took an early 10-8 lead in the first set as junior Harper Chinn, junior Winifred Gakidis, sophomore Abigail Venis, and sophomore Isabella Alcott all tallied kills before junior Julia Dopazo recorded a service ace to extend the advantage.
- Junior Katelyn Williams then tallied a pair of kills and back-to-back points from Alcott pushed the advantage to 20-18.
- After the Hawks tied the match at 20-20, senior Yumeng Liu recorded a service ace, a kill from graduate student Isabella Smith, and attack errors from Hartford helped Clark win the set 25-21.
- The Cougars took an 11-6 edge in the second set sparked by kills from Williams, Venis, and Alcott as well as a service ace from sophomore Hannah Harrington.
- Alcott then recorded back-to-back service aces and a pair of Chinn kills pushed the lead to 17-8 and later in the set Chinn, Alcott, and Smith closed out the set with kills as the scarlet and white took the set 25-19.
- Gakidis, Chinn, Harrington, Venis, and Smith opened the third set with kills as the Cougars trailed 14-8 before the Hawks went on a 7-3 run to take a 21-11 edge in the set.
- Gakidis added another kill before the end of the set and a pair of attack errors earned Clark their final two points of the frame as the Cougars dropped the set 25-14.
- Clark jumped out to a 9-4 edge in the fourth led by Gakidis, Dopazo, and Alcott kills and errors from the Hawks.
- Smith, Chinn, and Williams added kills in the middle of the set before another Williams kill gave the Cougars a 21-11 lead.
- The Cougars closed out the match with four points over the remainder of the match as the squad earned their first win of the year.
