WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (1-6, 0-1 NEWMAC) hosted their conference and home opener against Salve Regina (8-4), took the first set, but were bested 3-1 by the Seahawks on Tuesday night from the Kneller Gymnasium.
Clark won the first set 25-22, dropped the second set 22-25, fell 21-25 in the third, and was edged 22-25 in the final set.
How it Happened
- The Cougars jumped out to a 5-3 lead sparked by a service ace from junior Winifred Gakidis and a kill from junior Katelyn Williams pushed the edge to 6-4.
- Clark went onto score six straight points as junior Harper Chinn, a duo block from graduate student Isabella Smith and sophomore Abigail Venis, and a service ace from junior Isabella Alcott as the team extended their lead to 12-6.
- Chinn, Williams, and Alcott tallied kills shortly after and a service ace from sophomore Hannah Harrington gave Clark a 20-14 advantage.
- Smith, Venis, and Chinn slammed the door on the set, including a Chinn kill off a feed from Harrington as the Cougars took the set 25-22.
- Salve jumped out to a 7-4 edge despite a kill from Williams and a pair of service aces from Gakidis as well as a Chinn a kill tied the set at 7-7.
- Alcott and Chinn combined for five kills in the middle of the set before another Alcott kill tied the contest at 19-19.
- Chinn and Smith each tallied kills over the next eight points as the Seahawks registered a 25-22 win.
- The teams battled to a 6-6 tie in the third set as junior Julia Dopazo and Harrington tallied service aces and Chinn registered a kill.
- Alcott, Chinn, Gakidis, and Williams all recorded kills and Gakidis and Williams registered blocks as the Cougars tied the set at 15-15.
- Alcott registered a service ace and kill to give Clark a 19-18 lead, but Salve ended the set on a 7-3 run as the Seahawks took the set 25-21.
- The Cougars jumped out to a 10-6 edge in the fourth set sparked by kills from Williams and Chinn as well as a Chinn service ace before the Seahawks rallied to take a 13-12 edge.
- Gakidis tallied two more blocks and kills from Chinn and Alcott pulled Clark back within one at 19-18 and after trailing 24-19, the Cougars scored three straight points, but dropped the match 25-22.

- Chinn led the Cougars with 14 kills and added seven digs.
