Katelyn Towne netted the game-winning goal with 12 minutes to go as the Cougars topped Fitchburg State (2-1) 2-1 on Sunday afternoon from Elliot Field.
How it Happened
- Senior Morgan Brown created a pair of chances within the first six minutes of play that were stopped by Isabella Corcoran and the Cougars earned three penalty corners early in the match as they applied constant offensive pressure.
- Senior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia broke the scoreless tie with a goal off a penalty corner in the 14th minute that was sent by senior Jenna Beauchain to fellow senior Alison Kopec, and Kopec dished the ball to Cacciapaglia, who found the back of the cage.
- Beauchain delivered three penalty corners and both Towne and Brown fired shots on goal that were saved, while the Cougars defense allowed no shots in the second quarter as Clark led 1-0 at the break.
- Olivia Narkevicius tied the game less than five minutes into the third quarter before Brown fired a pair of shots off a corner that were stopped.
- Towne broke the 1-1 tie in the 48th minute as she took the ball through the Falcon defense, entered the circle, and fired a shot that went into the back of the cage to take a 2-1 lead.
- Senior Loren Root stopped a shot from Samantha Jones with less than seven minutes to play and Clark's defense didn't allow another attempt over the remainder of the game as the Cougars tallied a 2-1 victory.
